I Know Lucy by Melissa Pearl : Reviewed

Standard

Genre: YA Romantic Suspense

~BLURB~

Lucy Tate is on the run. After witnessing the brutal murder of her parents, she’s spent five years in hiding — taking on different personas and faking her way through life. The authorities can’t be trusted, so she remains in the shadows, always one beat ahead of the man who is forever hunting her. That is, until she meets Zach Schultz, a senior at Monte Vista High and the one guy she can’t bear to leave. Suddenly her natural instincts to lie, steal, and run are overshadowed by something else…the desire to stay. It’s her one shot at a normal life.

Curious by nature, Zach is immediately drawn to the new girl at school. How can a person look both confident and vulnerable all in the same moment? Determined to learn more about her, he tries to get close, but is thrown into a world of lies and confusion. The only thing that becomes apparent is that discovering the truth may get him killed.

My Thoughts

This is my first time to read a novel of Melissa Pearl. At first I was confused with the jumping timeline but after a while, I got the hang of it and when I did, I started to enjoy reading the book.

Reading this book was an enjoyable experience for me. I liked that the characters didn’t react on matters the way I expected them too. Though I think the characters are too young to talk about love in a very serious manner, I felt that this was a great plot once I get past the awkwardness of thinking about their age. Not that I think young love does not exist, it’s just that I believe that a happy ever after is easier to believe when they are adult and more settled with what they really what to do with their life.

Nonetheless, I immensely enjoyed the strength of Zach and Lucy’s characters. I also fell in love with Zach’s circle of friends. As always, I love reading about great stories of friendships. That’s why among the characters, I find Elliot’s character dearest to me.

I am looking forward to reading more about Uncle Alex and whether he would be the person to help Lucy attain justice. And of course, the ending was so much of a cliff hanger I can’t wait to read the next book. I didn’t expect I’d enjoy reading I Know Lucy this much but by the time Zach made that confrontation with Lucy and when Lucy discovered Zach has broken his promise, I find myself totally hooked.

So far this book was fun, thrilling and heart touching. I can’t wait to read the next one and get to know Lucy more.
