Let It Burn

The Barrington Billionaires, Book 4

By Ruth Cardello

His questions will put her in danger.

Her love will set him free.

Billionaire Andrew Barrington walked away from the lavish lifestyle he was raised in to serve as a Marine. Until recently, he would have said he’d made the right choice. A tragic set of events, however, has him not reenlisting and emotionally hitting rock bottom.

Helene Franklin is visiting her uncle as part of an extended vacation in Aruba. She trades her bikini for an office job when he says there is trouble brewing at his clinic and asks her to keep an eye out for anything unusual.

Every Marine needs a mission. To appease his family, Andrew heads to Aruba to track down what he believes is a wild goose chase. Expecting to discover nothing, he meets a quirky, irresistible virgin who is just about to turn his whole world upside down.

What will they gain and what will they lose when they both decide to. . .let it burn?

I’ve always love books written by Ruth Cardello. This one is a really great addition to the series.

At first, I’m not really sure how I felt about Helene. I kinda dislike her but she proved me wrong along the way. I like when characters prove me wrong about what I think of their character. So yeah, Helene is now among my favorite heroines from a Ruth Cardello novel.

Like always, how the novel talks about family touches me. I love how Helene helped Andrew to find his way back to his family. I also love seeing how the Barrington family, most especially Sophie develop into a better family than they were before the start of the series.

While Helene helped Andrew find his way back, I also enjoyed reading how the two of them helped each other realized their dreams and the things that would make them truly happy.

And though this is a romance novel, for me it’s more about family, facing your fears, growing up as a person and fighting for your dreams. Of course, the romance aspect of it was also really really great and romantic and that’s why that felt like the icing on the cake.

I can’t wait to read more of the Barrington brothers and the other families surrounding this series.

Taking Charge (Lone Star Burn #4) by Ruth Cardello

Taking Charge (Lone Star Burn)Taking Charge
by Ruth Cardello
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Lucy Albright never wanted her family’s Texas ranch, but now it’s in foreclosure. She’s already lost so much she can’t bear the thought of losing one more thing. Lucy learned the hard way not to accept help from a man when there are strings attached, so she’ll do whatever it takes to save the ranch on her own terms—even if that means launching an online business marketing high-¬tech sex toys.

Ranch manager David Harmon has a reputation for being a cowboy with a heart of gold. Even if she refuses his help, down-and-out Lucy is the kind of woman he’ll do anything to protect. And while David may not know much about Lucy’s naughty side business, that won’t stop a cowboy from doing something he’s set his mind to.

With the ranch threatened by a scheming neighbor, Lucy can’t help but keep David around. Their attraction may be undeniable, but will the spark between them burn her entire future to the ground?

my thoughts

David is one of the characters in this series that I was really curious about and was looking forward to reading the story ever since book 1. And I’m happy that the way the author wrote His and Lucy’s story dd not disappoint.

I like the progress and the flow of how their relationship was build up. I almost felt like I was in the story myself and witnessing it first hand. And like most of Ruth’s books, I enjoyed the life lessons it shared or reminded me off.

I’m not really a pet person but I was highly fascinated with David’s job. I even wished I was there to witness it first hand and maybe experience the same thing. His character’s patience was very inspiring while Lucy being both stubborn and tough inspired me in a different way. I enjoyed how they have overcome their struggle to reach their happy ending.

The appearance of other characters from the previous books was a bonus. I can still say that Mason is still my favorite character in the series and I enjoyed his appearance in here. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Trade It All by Ruth Cardello

Lance Barrington’s priority is business, not pleasure. Only one woman has ever been able to turn him inside out: Willa Chambers, his sister’s best friend. Forbidden. Scandalous. Unforgettable.

They’ve spent the last ten years trying to forget one night.

When Willa and Lance are thrown together again, things heat up fast. Loving him almost destroyed her the first time.

This time, will it heal her?

Trade It All (The Barrington Billionaires, #3)Trade It All by Ruth Cardello

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I like this story because it’s not one of those fast developing romance. In fact, this one has history.  A past that was hunting both the characters. I like how the characters develop throughout the story and how they faced the hurdle between them. I also like how Willa’s friends stood up for her even without her spilling everything.

I also like how the characters get to know not only each other but only their own self throughout the process. I’m just a little hung and wanting to unravel the mystery around the family. Hopefully the next books will give justice to all of that mystery. I’m looking forward to the next one.

Crazy Nights by Danielle Stewart

Emmitt Kalling isn’t satisfied unless he’s smashing something. It can be a punching bag at the gym or some jerk’s face at the bar. He’s not picky. Since arriving home from his last deployment, he’s itching for some action. But he only finds the same problems he faced before he enlisted.

Evie Pike has been exiled from her budding acting career with few future prospects. On a journey to find her purpose, she discovers her path is only paved with disappointment and the coffee she keeps spilling on her bosses. Feeling painfully unqualified for almost everything, she realizes a chance to hop a plane with Emmitt is like a ripcord on a parachute; she’d better pull it before it’s too late.

She’s desperate to connect. He’s a master at no strings attached. Their attraction is magnetic, but their opinions are polarizing. Will their sizzling chemistry be enough?

Crazy Nights (The Barrington Billionaires Book 3)Crazy Nights by Danielle Stewart

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book had me in a roller coaster of emotion. I was thrilled, I was confused, I feel sorry and annoyed at the characters too, but most of all I learned a lot from both Emmitt and Evie.

Just like most of Danielle’s books, this story deals a lot about family and their issues. I get where Emmitt was coming from but I also understand how Evie felt the way she did. At some point in the story, I felt like Evie should just give up her ideals and go on with Emmitt’s plan because it sounds better for everybody. But in the end, I was happy she stood up for what she believe in.

I was holding my breath when the news about Emmitt came out. How Danielle weaved and spun the story was so good that even though you may have an idea what might coming next you still find yourself surprised when it finally came.

I love the story of hope, trust, and faith that this story delivers. This for me is the best one from all of Danielle’s contribution to the series. Of course, I’m still looking forward to the next one. Because with Danielle Stewart, every story just gets better and better.

You and Me Make Three

Shaun Henderson learned young that the best defense is to strike first. It’s perfect in business but not in matters of the heart.

Morgan Pereira had walked away from a high profile position to protect her son. Years later she is given another opportunity to climb the corporate ladder.

Taking the job opens wounds Morgan thought had healed.

If Shaun really does want her, he’ll have to learn that some things can’t be forced. Love plays by its own rules.

You & Me Make Three: Barrington Billionaire's Series: Book ThreeYou & Me Make Three: Barrington Billionaire’s Series: Book Three by Jeannette Winters

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The story started a bit slow for me. At first, I wasn’t really into it but every turn of a page takes me deeper into the story until I find that I can’t put the book down until I get to the end.

I like the added diversity of the story. It gives more feelings and emotions into it. In fact I feel like there should be a book two fo this book three. Because I want to know what happened after they became three. How did Tyler feel about that? How did Shaun develop their relationship? I would like to see how that one build up. Because much as I like the diversity, I feel like it wasn’t really explored. Like Tyler was just there to add as a conflict to the budding romance between Shaun and Morgan. So yeah, another story or maybe a novella starring them would be something that I’ll love to see.

Storywise, it was really good. The first part as I said was a bit slow for me maybe because of the lack of dialogue and too much self-thought. Although I like knowing how characters really think I also like being shown these things through scenes that involved dialogue and interactions. It gets better throughout the story as the characters show you a part of themselves and when you really get into the heart of it, I guess it doesn’t really matter how it started.

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this story and I can’t wait to find more of what happened to the other Henderson siblings.

Lone Star Burn: Love On Tap (Kindle Worlds Novella) by Judy Kentrus

Genre: Contemporary Romance

my thoughts

Grayson Wolff was currently enjoying the success of the microbreweries he’d added to his family’s chain of roadhouses. Working and taking care of his nine-year-old nephew didn’t leave time in his life for a woman. That all changes when Malibu Barbie comes into the western style bar and orders a Pina Colada, with extra fruit. With her California tan and white shorts she sticks out like a rose among a field of cacti. He didn’t do one-night stands, plus he had too much going on in his life to get involved with a blond-haired bimbo. Causing a scandal was the last thing he needed. He was so close to achieving his personal goal, and no woman was going to mess it up.

Jennie Reynolds took this little vacation before she starts her new job. Driving a U-Haul cross country was a challenge and she’d never received so many middle finger insults in her life. A hot dog motorcycle driver cut her off and she missed her exit. Now she was at some honky-tonk bar in the middle of Fort Mavis, Texas. She was tired and annoyed, but the guy sitting next to her met numbers one through five on her, a-guy-must-have list: Long black hair, stone-gray eyes, tall, lean muscular body, and he was close to her age. Too bad she couldn’t stick around long enough for numbers six, seven and eight, great in bed.

my thoughts

This is the first time I ever read this author and I probably wouldn’t even try if the novel was not set on my favorite author’s kindle world. However, I can honestly say that after this one, I’m gonna check  other books written by this author.

For a novella, this gave all the feels of a regular length contemporary romance novel. I like the smooth flowing of the author’s writing. I also liked the maturity of the characters. When it comes to romance, I find that I tend to get sucked in or believe more the happy ending when the characters are a little older so this one kind of hit right up my alley.

I really enjoyed the story. There was no dull moment at all. I only wished the author could have shown Matt’s reaction to the truth behind Jennie’s condition at the end and also to the good news of his dad’s promise to him being fulfilled.

All in all, I’d say I loved all her characters and wish I could read more about them.

Table For Two (Barrington Billionaires #2) by Jeannette Winters Reviewed

Title: Table For Two (Barrington Billionaires #2)

Author: Jeannette Winters

Release Date: March 19, 2016

my thoughts

Dean Henderson never backs down from a challenge. No matter the cost or the opponent, when it comes to business, if he wants it he gets it. No exceptions.

Tessa Brooks left her small town to get out of the spotlight of being the preacher’s daughter. Boston is the perfect place to blend in and finally be herself. A low profile job in the HR office of Poly-Shyn fits perfectly into the life she is creating for herself. When Dean takes over as the new CEO, sparks fly. Tessa grew up hearing about the difference between right and wrong, but no one ever told her that wrong could feel so good.

They belong together, but they might realize it too late.

There are consequences to loving a powerful man–and sometimes they’re deadly.

my thoughts

What I like most about these Barrington Billionaire series is that, not only was it written by three different authors but that it also shows events intertwined with each of the authors book and like people from real life that came from different places that came to know each other because of their life events and goals, these people met each other the same way. For me, it gave the feeling of not reading a novel but real life story too. And though the characters specially the male ones came from very well off families, their struggles were very much human that you can feel it touching your soul.

I like how Dean stood his ground to prove himself and prove to the people around him that he is not what they thought him to be. I like how Tess despite seeming to be ordinary did not cower to Dean even if he tried to intimidate her and over power her. I also like how the characters grow and how they came to resolve their differences and be together as a family in the end.

Also, I felt that Jeannette Winters’ writing improved again from how she wrote this novel to the previous one.

This book is not just romance, it’s more like it’s about family, about trying to prove oneself  and achieving your goals. Of setting your priorities and getting to know yourself in the process. If you love stories like that, this one is for you.

Stolen Kisses (Barrington Billionaires #2) by Ruth Cardello Reviewed

Title: Stolen Kisses
Author: Ruth Cardello

my thoughts

Dax Marshall isn’t the type of man a woman takes home to meet her parents. He’s a business shark who has never let anything as insignificant as caring stop him from taking over a company. Some call him heartless, but he doesn’t see the value of caring about anyone or anything until he meets Kenzi.

Her happiness becomes his obsession.

Kenzi Barrington has tried to be the person her family needed her to be, but she doesn’t want to lie anymore. When she can’t hold a dark secret in another day, she turns to the one man she knows is strong enough to hear the truth.

What starts as a simple attraction becomes a friendship that changes how they both define love.

my thoughts

I always enjoyed Ruth Cardello’s novels. And just when I thought she’s written her best one yet, she come around with something even better. For me this is her most emotional novel thus far.

I have probably reiterated so much in my previous reviews how I’m not a fan of love at first sight or whirlwind romances. This is not a love at first sight but I guess this qualifies as whirlwind romance. But somehow that thought didn’t bother me with Kenzi and Dax’ story. I guess it’s because of the way Dax’ had seen Kenzi the first time considering that the way they met was not very ideal. I liked how he understood her needs more than anyone who knew her ever did and how he put those needs first before his own.

Kenzi’s life experience was heartbreaking. I feel her so much even though I personally hate the name Kenzi. Funny how I didn’t even noticed her name much until I wrote this review. I guess that showed how much individuality Ruth’s characters have that you can see them for who they are and not relate their name to anyone else.

Kenzi’s family can get a little overbearing at times yet you can see how they love her in the way they know. This bit gave the story humor which made it all the more enjoyable to read.

What I love most about this story was how the characters grew. And mind you, I don’t mean just the main characters but everyone of them that is in this book. And as usual, I love how Ruth’s story is about family, friendship and love… how to understand each others as friends and/or as family even during those times when you don’t even understand yourself. For me, that will never ever get old. Because at the end of the day, that is what makes life bearable at hard times and more satisfying during the good times.

my thoughts

As always, Ruth Cardello never fails. I love this first installment to her new series. Like her other books, I like how it not only evolve around two people but also gives emphasis to family and friends. There are a lot of inspiring scenes and lines in this book. I also love seeing my favorite characters from her previous series getting a cameo role to this new one.

The presence of Alejandro and Victor Andrade is one of my favorite scenes in this one. I also love the character of the best friend and am looking forward to reading her story. The whole Barrington family holds a lot of promise I can’t to meet them and read about them.

One-click Favorite: Author Ruth Cardello

I promised myself I would do a feature on my blogs once a month about authors who are my one-click on amazon. I finally found the time to start that feature today. I pick Ruth Cardello to be the first because she’s the author that opened the door to reading Indie for me as well opening a book blog. So here goes…

How I came across Ruth Cardello and Maid for the Billionaire.

To those who are not yet familiar with her, Maid for the Billionaire was her first book. It was year 2012 when I found Abby and Dominic’s love story. My kindle was new and I just learned that the authors that I know about have their books on amazon at prices that are impossible for me. So I did the only thing I can do during those times, search for free books on Amazon. And there were loads of them!

Maid for the Billionaire was one them. And out of all the free ones I downloaded, I decided to read it first because of the cover. I rarely choose a book by their covers. But I love purple (MFTB used to have purple cover) and the old cover just caught me and I started digging in. It’s not very different from other books that I’ve read. I’m fairly certain that I’ve read a book before that have almost the same plot. However, there’s something about the way Ruth Cardello wrote it that I became enamored with the series. That’s where it all started. After reading that, I can’t sit still until I read the next one and when a new book of hers is out, I definitely need to one-click it immediately.

Why do I love Ruth Cardello?

When it comes to her novels, I’d say, what’s not to love? She is an amazing story teller. There’s something in the way she put the words together that I feel them in my heart. And I love that each novel is not only about the hero and the heroine achieving their happy ever after. It’s about family, friendships, about learning who you are, getting through life’s hurdles and becoming a better you. Much more than the love story, I find myself looking forward to those words of wisdom each book of hers offer. Reading her books not only bring entertainment but a piece of advice or reminder of the things that matter in this life time that we usually take for granted.

As an author, she’s a class act. I wish more authors act and behave the way she does. This indie world is not that big and I saw some people who keeps biting each other’s head off. With her, it’s always positivity and love floating around. I never saw post a single negative thing about an author, a reader, a blogger or a reviewer. I never saw her engage on a negative review or ask her street team to do that. As a blogger those are big deal. I’ve experienced being attacked by street teams because I was being honest on my reviews. As a reader, she’s really an inspiration. More so, I love the Serenity Chronicles she usually post. Those are like a ray of sunshine on a bad day. She’s also very generous. Not only with tangible means but more of the intangible ones. You can always see her posting appreciations to her readers, encouraging wanna be writers (I saw people actually thanking her for helping them) and spreading positivity.

I don’t know about you but for me, an author’s attitude impacts whether or not I’ll keep buying her/his books. If the behavior offends me, I don’t hesitate to walk away. And with Ruth, I don’t ever see that happening.

Getting to know her more…

I actually planned for doing an interview to make this part more meaningful and well believable but I know she’s a real busy person and I’m to shy to ask if I can feature her. I don’t want to take her time away from writing just to indulge me to have something I could put on m blog. But I really want to share more about her so I’m sharing an interview she did with Huffington Post before. If she ever read this, I hope you don’t mind.
