Chosen For Power (Women of Power Series, Book 1)
Somebody is out to destroy Elle Simpson and everything she’s worked hard to build. As the CEO of a corporate conglomerate, Elle is used to fighting off challengers. However, this new threat comes at a time when she finally lets her guard down to meet Prince Charming. And it’s unlike anything she’s been up against before.
Drake Charles’s work on mobile technology has made him a wealthy, powerful man.
But he quickly sheds the fame and publicity for a more private life, which earns him the label as a man of mystery. Drake adds to that mystery every year when he hosts a masquerade ball for charity. It’s also his best chance to find the one thing he really wants . . . true love.
Having met behind masks of anonymity, Elle and Drake enjoy a whirlwind night of romance that leaves them both wanting more. But Elle must question everything and everyone as she battles to save her life and career. Can Elle trust Drake to help get her life back or will she lose everything?
I’ve been reading romance novels since I was eleven. That is to say, I have probably read all kinds of romance novels that there is. The thing about Chosen for Power, you’ve probably read the same kind of novel before (you know, same conflict, around the same plot) but then, I am sure you’ve never read it the way Kathleen Brooks wrote it. She really topped herself with this one.
I’m not fond of whirlwind romances. I think I have stressed that enough too with all of my reviews. But with this book, you wouldn’t care what kind of romance it is. While other romance stories have you wondering how the lead characters will come to fall in love with each other, or when they will realized they have fallen in love with each other, Kathleen Brooks have that served in a silver platter right at the beginning of the story. So now you wonder how the story will keep on going because there is way so much more time in the book to go. And that’s where the beauty of Kathleen’s prose lie. With her books, it’s not about falling in love, it’s how to keep being in love, nurturing a relationship and watching it blossom like spring. The same goes with Chosen for Power, you keep going on waiting and watching how the lead characters will keep it alive and stronger. And I think that’s beautiful because that’s what real love is really about.
I always love the personality of her characters. I loved how feisty Elle Simpson was. She kind of give me a new picture of Elle because before Chosen for Power, when you say Elle, the first person that comes to my mind was Elle Woods – that lade from Legally Blonde. Elle Simpson on the other is one redhead with a power to reckon with. Drake on the other hand is your new definition of a geek hottie. I don’t usually think geek and hottie come together but then Drake Charles have proven me wrong with that. The other characters on these new series aren’t to be easily dismissed either, the sisters Bree and Allegra are like pole apart when it comes to personality but they’re as feisty and hot as their sister arrived to be. I love the kind of friend Jessica and Finn was. It made me look forward to their stories even though I’m not really sure if they get to be part of the series. Mary, I knew everyone have under estimated her right from the start, the way she turned out was quite a revelation to me. I loved how Kathleen played with her characters and not in the bad way I expect it would (yeah, she’s on my hit list of the would be bad guy) but I loved that she isn’t. Among others though, I am most curious about Mallory and Reid, that something more between them was something to really look forward too. And hey, I think the Rose sisters from the Bluegrass series have a lost kin wondering here… of course I’m talking about Shirley.
There’s really so much about this book and these characters that right now, I think August is a long long time.
